My son called me on Sunday night and told me he had spent a first date the night before with a really special girl.
He had wanted to ask her out for some time now, and on Saturday night around 10 o’clock he felt spontaneous and called and asked her if she would like to go out for some ice cream.
No ice cream shops were open at that hour so they went to Wal Mart and bought their favorite flavors and went to a near by park to enjoy it.
His date started seeing shooting stars. My son didn’t see any at first. She said, “Let’s lie down on the grass because we’re not leaving until you see them too. They spent four hours there talking and watching shooting stars.
I told my husband what my son had said and he said, “Yes, the annual meteor shower is going on right now. The Perseid Meteor shower shows up every August.
It was about 10 o’clock on Sunday night when my son had called. My husband said that at about 1 o’clock Sunday night would be the best time to see it.
So, we tried a little spontaneity ourselves. We put a sheet, a fluffy comforter, and some pillows in the back of our pick up truck and drove out into one of the pastures and layed down and watched our own shooting stars until about 1:30 in the morning. It was so awesome, we felt like kids again.
Here are some great photos of different comets and meteor showers. It was fascinating to me to learn how the “shooting stars” originate.
If you missed the Perseid Meteor shower this year try to look for it next August. Do something fun and spontaneous with your sweetheart!
